2008 Summer Research Projects Wiki

Each of you will participate in a substantial research project during the Institute. These projects are intended to give you a deeper experience in a more narrowly defined domain, and are likely to draw on your programming skills, as well as your background knowledge of information sciences.

This summer, the research projects are all centered on the idea of data-aware search. The first tutorial, which is required for all students, will serve as the introduction to these research projects.

Project objectives and timelines will be in place after the first week of the Institute. During the second week, graduate students involved in the planning will describe the projects in detail, and answer your questions. At the end of the second week you will choose a project and begin doing preliminary reading and collaboration. We anticipate that each research group will consist of approximately 6 students. Research continues in earnest in the fifth week of the Institute, after the completion of the foundations course.
